“Each design project is unique. We design each project as an instinctive response to the setting and our clients’ requirements. Unfussy detailing, structural forms and softer planting inform our garden making.”

Dean Bolton-Grant

Managing Director

Core to Dean’s vocation as a garden designer is his love of horticulture. His love of the outside world impacts his every decision as a garden designer.

After studying Horticulture at Kingston Maurward College, Dorset, Dean’s career has taken him across the UK and Europe. As a young horticulturist he worked for Raymond Blanc at Le Manoir as an organic gardener and then gardened for the Queen of Denmark. The Mediterranean was next on the career path, managing historic gardens and landscapes for the President and Prime Minister of Malta. Dean returned to the UK and chose to study Garden Design at Leeds Becket University where he combined his horticultural knowledge with his new-found European influences and this love of European design continues to influence his work today.

Dean has always been captivated by the romance and theatre of landscape as the seasons progress, and the dynamism of plants as they conduct their annual performance, flowing and ebbing with the seasons. The form and structure of plants in winter grounds our projects, with the softer planting bringing those much wanted seasonal highlights.

Today, Dean's love for European design continues to inspire his work, which spans across Harrogate, York, Leeds, Wetherby, and beyond in Yorkshire.Dean established his horticultural practice in 2013. Dean has also since launched the renowned Northern School of Gardening to share his love of all things gardens, and the fine gardening and outdoor paraphernalia online retail brand, Urban Grow.
